| Certificate for Secure Internet Sites |
|
The following is applicable to parents, students, and staff. To ensure school data is kept secure when transmitted on the Internet, all Highworth IT services that can be accessed via the Internet are protected via a secure certificate, ensuring the website is authentic, and that data is transmitted between the school, and yourself, in a secure manner. By default, your home Internet connection does not “trust” Highworth Grammar School. Although you can continue to access Highworth services from home without this trust, your Internet browser will produce the following warnings when accessing our secure websites (such as ePortal, HighworthLINK, and WebMail):
You then need to click on “Continue to this website”. In order to set your Internet browser to trust Highworth Grammar School as a source, please download our certificate from this link, and save it to your computer, we recommend choosing your “Desktop” as an easily accessible location. The steps you now need to take will depend upon your Internet browser, we have included instructions for Internet Explorer below. Instructions for Mozilla Firefox will be available shortly. Internet Explorer Within Internet Explorer, click on the “Tools” menu, and select “Internet Options”.
Click on the Content tab, and then click on the Certificates button.
From the Certificates windows, please select “Trusted Root Certificate Authorities”, then click on the Import button.
In the resulting “Certificate Import Wizard”, click NEXT, then the BROWSE button. You then need to find and open the certificate file you saved to your computer earlier.` Finding this file works in the same way you would open any file, e.g. within Microsoft Word.
Having either double-clicked on the “highworth.cer” file, or clicked OPEN, please click NEXT. Confirm that the open “Place all certificates in the following store” is set to “Trusted Root Certificate Authorities”, and then click NEXT, and then click FINISH.
Please click YES to the resulting “Security Warning”, since you have downloaded this file from the school website, you can be assured it is secure.
You should then receive a confirmation that the import was successful.
In future, you should not see the original warning message when accessing Highworth websites. All websites you access will be authenticated by the school and secure. |
